Earth week begins this week.  Our village held it’s annual Arbor Day celebration last Friday by planting a Red Bud tree.  We had the help of about 30 of the cutest preschoolers.  Talk about fun! Of course we should be looking for ways to change our habits and attitudes to preserve the earth every week.  I’m using less plastic, especially the bags from stores.  I take my own now.  I have to leave them in the car to remember.  Old habits are hard to break! I’ve got biodegradable garbage bags too.  And I’m really trying not to use or at least reuse those plastic water bottles.  Tell me…what are you doing on behalf of the planet?

Hi Arlene, That’s cute that the preschoolers got involved in your community’s Arbor Day celebration. As a teacher, I can and do implement many “green” themed activities into our classroom. At home, I recycle, reuse and conserve energy and water whenever possible. If every single body is earth-conscious and does what they can, even in small ways, we’ll make a difference.

I am totally into recycling! I do it so much that I asked the City to give me two re-cycling bins. I think I have more re-cycling than garbage some weeks. I do re-use my water bottles and my plastic grocery bags.

I need to work on conserving more water because I love long, hot showers–and so does my daughter when she’s home.

Teaching the children about conservation of our resources by giving them hands on experience is a great way to engrain the principle in their curious minds.

I don’t buy plastic and I quit using bottled water, not only for what plastic is doing to our environment, but the toxins it releases into our food and water.

I do not buy bottled water anymore. I’ve put a water purifier on my faucet and carry my on bottle.

I love red bud trees, I’m so glad you planted one and taught children to do the same.
